Valimo Seating as Material Bank
AA Visiting School, Fiskars 2025

Developed during the AA Visiting School in Fiskars 2025, this project proposes a series of architectural insertions for Valimo, former old foundry currently acting as a local cultural venue. Among these, the audience seating is conceived not only as furniture but as a material bank for future use.

Rather than storing reclaimed timber in a separate wood shed, the project relocates the material into the theatre itself, where it becomes an active architectural element. The emptied shed is freed for new programs, while the timber is simultaneously stored and deployed as modular seating.

By embedding storage within use, the project reframes furniture as temporary architecture and material reserve. The seating remains adaptable, reversible, and available for disassembly, allowing the material to be reused in future constructions. Within the FRAMED context, the intervention explores circularity, spatial efficiency, and the shifting status of materials between archive, structure, and public use.
